The Pleasantville Lions Club participates in a vision screening program for children in the community. The program screens children for vision problems for early detection. The Pleasantville Lions visit local schools to test children's vision.
How does the program work?
• Trained Lions volunteers use touchless screening devices to screen children's vision.
The devices detect risk factors for vision problems like strabismus and refractive errors.
• Children who need follow-up care are referred to an eye doctor.
Why is this important?
• Vision problems that go undetected before age 7 can become permanent.
• Poor vision can make it harder for children to learn
• 1 in 3 young children have correctable vision problems
Vision Screening
Eighty percent of all visual impairment can be prevented or cured.
The first step to prevention is awareness. The second is early detection through Vision Screening.
Around the world, Lions partner with medical professionals and community leaders to screen young children, primary school students and adults to identify those at risk for vision loss.
