About Us

Lions International
Lions is an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 202 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.

Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters.

Beginning in 1917, the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities. View LQ (Lions Quarterly Video Magazine) on the Lions News Network to see how Lions continue to make a difference everyday and everywhere.

The Pleasantville Lions Club was chartered in 1931 with a strong emphasis on service to our local community, especially to the visually impaired and the critically ill patients at the Rosary Hill Home. The Pleasantville Lions Club raises money many ways to support the Club’s various charitable activities. The Club contributes to both local worthy causes and people in need worldwide.

Membership in the Pleasantville Lions Club is by invitation and is open to men and women who believe that their involvement in the community can make a difference. The Pleasantville Lions meet once each month at a local restaurant to plan their activities. Guest speakers at these meetings include representatives from the various charities and organizations that receive assistance from the Pleasantville Lions.

The following are some of our key activities:

SEE PROGRAM: We provide volunteers to screen pre-school children for potential eye problems.

GUIDING EYES FOR THE BLIND: Funding for the Yorktown Heights Training Center for Guiding Eye Dogs.

VACATION CAMP FOR THE BLIND: Funding and other support for the computer lab at the “Visions” camp.

EYE GLASSES: Hundreds of used eye glasses are collected during the year and donated to “New Eyes for the Needy.”

BOOKS FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED: Funding to expand the large print book and books on tape collections at the Mt. Pleasant Library.
